Surgical rotations are a killer. I'm at the hospital 10 hours a day starting at 7:30am, and I also get 4 hours of Saturday classes plus after-hours teaching during the week, meaning I don't have much spare time anymore.
Oh wait, yes I do. It's called sacrificing sleep!
Did this in an evening while trying to tweak a "pencil emulating brush" in SAI. No matter how I try, it just doesn't feel the same as that visceral sensation of furiously hatching across the page. But the end result wasn't too bad for what it was. Looks a lot more like I did it with a pacer, though.
So yeah, this is Orlestat, the character I've kept around for yonks trying to create a novel for. The novel's almost set to take off (i.e. start actually getting written), so I guess I got really excited and wanted to get an actually DECENT visual of what the character was like. If you're wondering where the right wing is, it's not there. He lost it. How, is for me to know and for readers to find out!
But more importantly this is the first picture in which I'm really happy that I've caught his current character, situation, *hinted* at a story in a single image. So it'll be the official image I bandy about when talking about the character now. For the first time, I also kinda glossed over certain anatomical details such as the exact structure of the shoulders, and I think I prefer it this way. Shaping him entirely like a human would really mess up the aerodynamics.
